"Combat Delvy" - 1966-67

To many of us Frank Delvy was known as “Combat” Delvy" and the following anecdote is an indication of where that came from:
While in the middle of a very active operation Frank made the routine call, known as a SITREP, to the D Troop head shed (Operations), finishing the call with the statement that, he and his wing man will remain on station. The head shed came back immediately asking why he was not returning to Cu Chi because in the line that summarized any injuries to the crew he reported that one crew member was wounded and it was SOP to return when anyone was injured; they wanted to know who was injured and how bad.
Frank’s reply was, “I am the one injured and it is incidental damage to foot”. Frank had a foot full of shrapnel from a round that came through one of the pedals, obviously not bad enough to abandon a good fight.
