Info Sheet - John H. Wolters

Funeral services for John H. Wolters, 67, were held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2005, in St. David's Episcopal Church, Polo Road, Columbia, S.C., with the Rev. Father Robert C. Chiles and the Rev. Deacon Judith G. Ewing officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to a charity in support of children of war.

Mr. Wolters died Saturday, July 9, 2005. Born in Baarlo, Holland, Netherlands, he was a son of the late Lambert Hendrik Walters and Maria Walters Scholten. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict retiring after 23 years of service. He was awarded several medals, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with DVC 60, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Bronze Star. After retirement from the Army, Mr. Wolters worked with various financial institutions and retired from Fort Jackson Federal Credit Union.

Survivors include his wife, Sandi R. Wolters; daughter, Julee Arian Gazer of Columbia; sons, Lt. Billy T. Duncan II of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Michael Lee Duncan of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Amanda, Nicholas, McKayla, Steven and Samantha; and a brother, Jack L. Wolters, and niece and nephew, Jackie Wolters and John Wolters, all of Baarlo, Holland, Netherlands.
