Bill was my real friend and tent mate. As you know as you get to be a senior officer in any organization it is hard to have real friends and be close to anyone. He and I were close..

Bill Wilde was an Armor officer who came to D Troop in Jan 1976 from Germany. In his last assignment there he was a Flight Instructor in the USEUR transition from fixed to rotary wing school. His first assignment in D Troop was in the Aero Weapons Section. He took it over in late Feb or March when Maj Stalker moved up to Flight Operations Officer. In September 1967 He took over the Aero Rifle Platoon when Harold Fisher moved up to XO. When Harold Fisher Left in Dec '67 Bill Vinson moved from Flt Opns Off to XO and Bill moved to Flight Operations Officer. Bill's next assignment in Jan 1968 was to FT. Knox to an Air Cavalry Squadron where he was the S-3. He got out of the Army and went into the Army Reserves and moved to Mineral Wells TX where he was a Civilian Flight instructor. Subsequent to that he was employed by Petroleum Helicopters flying out to oil rigs. He became the maintence officer for the company. Somewhere in his employment with Petrolium Helicopters he had a heart attack and by-pass surgery and was grounded but continued working as a maintenance officer.
