Jack Nemeyer: JL went to flying Cobras.... and crashed in a Cobra , I cannot recall the reason, I helped get him out. Seems like he had a severe back injury...

I searched for JL and talked to a woman in Laurel, Miss. who had the same name....She informed me that they often got their mail mixed up and that she was certain that "JL" had passed away..

He was a heck of a swell easy goin guy, talked real slow with a heavy southern drawl .....JN

Tom Dooling: The crash Jack refers to was actually Jake’s Cobra being shot down near the Cambodian border by a couple of 51 cals. Engine quit and aircraft was on fire when it hit the ground — Wayne Hooper was in the front seat and ended up with a broken back - something Jake never forgave himself for. Rocky Reed was the Scout — he landed and his crew chief Joe Ramey pulled Hooper out of the aircraft and they transported them to the hospital. Joe received a Silver Star for his actions — unfortunately, Joe was killed a short time later - all of these guys were real heroes. Hooper lives in FL in the Miami area last I heard.
