Info Sheet - Fredrick A. "Fred" Vigil

Killed in Action 22 January 1971

………………………………………………………………………………………………………

From Ed Wolfe LOH Pilot:

I flew "Proud Mary" only ONE day. So I have a memorable pic taken by my CE Fred Vigil, who was also a OH-58 CE with 199th LIB. Fred and I had flown many times during the 5 weeks and 130 hours that I had flown -58's. And, I have the one reel of Super 8mm which Fred shot of me flying formation on a Centaur Cobra and the flight back to Long Binh and hovering into the "Corral" with the final shot of me taking my helmet off (used in the recent Ken Burns Vietnam movie) and a shot of the observer getting out of the ship. The next day, 22 January 1971, CW2 Rog Johnson, SGT Fred Vigil, and SGT Mike Perry were killed when "Proud Mary" blew up in flight.
