Seaside Man Killed in Vietnam

A 30-year-old Army sergeant whose family lives in Seaside is among 60 U.S. servicemen reported killed in Vietnam. SFC Tuioalele Suiaunoa died Tuesday from "burns and wounds received while on patrol when his unit was ambushed by a hostile force'" according to a telegram received by his widow, Tupuimoega.

Born Sept. 13, 1937, in Fagaalu, American Samoa, Sgt. Suiaunoa was graduated from high school there and then came to Los Angeles, where he joined the Army in 1960. following basic training at Fort Old, he was assigned to duty in Germany for three years, returning to Fort Old in 1963. In 1965 he became a drill sergeant there, serving in that capacity until going to Vietnam last Aug. 21. According to Mrs. Suiaunoa, he was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division near Saigon.

Besides his widow, he leaves a daughter, Aunt Debbie, 3; his pare4nts, Mr. and Mrs. Toetasi Suiaunoa of Los Angeles; a brother, Ierupaalu Suiaunoa, of Los Angeles; sisters, mrs. Rufo Tuiteleleapaga, Mrs. Pama All, Silomiga Suiaunoa, and Leafuiameto Suiaunoa, all of Los Angeles; and a sister, Mrs. Falelauiula Cooper, who lives in Indiana. Funeral and burial services are pending in San Diego.
