Obituary: James W. “Jim” Pyle, 69, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at Bethel Pointe Health and Rehabilitation in Muncie following an extended illness.
He was born on Dec. 11, 1944, in Muncie the son of Wayne and Mildred (Morris) Pyle and has resided in the Alexandria-Summitville area all of his lifetime. He was a graduate of Summitville High School, Class of 1963. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. Jim retired from Delco Remy, formerly of Anderson, in 1999 after 34 years of employment. He was a former member of the Alexandria Eagles and Marion AmVets. He enjoyed riding his Harley, fishing, boating and tinkering in his garage. Family was very special to Jim.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Greer) Pyle; two daughters, Amy (Brian) Carey of Alexandria and Michele (Brad) Lemmons of Buford, Ga.; two sons, Todd Pyle of Anderson and Tim Ward of Kokomo; grandchildren, Timmy Mowell, Sydney Carey, Levi Carey, Rylee Pyle, Breana Lemmons, Andrew Lemmons; brother, Richard (Phyllis) Pyle of Monticello; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Paul and Sandy Davis; and Jim’s special four-legged feline friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Pyle; two sisters, Amanda Grabants and Sue Garrett; three brothers-in-law, Rad Garrett, James Greer and Charlie Brummett; and sister-in-law, Zella Greer.
Services honoring Jim’s life took place at 1 p.m. on Saturday October 18th in the Noffze Funeral Home, 501 N. Harrison St., Alexandria. Mark Reneau will officiate. Interment will followed in Vinson Memorial Cemetery at Summitville with military honors by the United States Army and the Elwood VFW Honor Guard.
