John Elliott, 65, longtime Hereford resident died Thursday, October 23, 2008 at the Thomas E. Creek Veteran Medical Center Nursing Home, Amarillo.
A “Cowboys” Celebration of Life service was held, October 25, 2008 at the Barn Church of Hereford. Rev. Joan Gaines, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Hereford officiated. Burial followed on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 1:30 PM, C.S.T., in Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico with military honors by the U. S. Army Honor Guard. Service were under the direction of Hereford Heritage Funeral Home, 411 E. 6th Street.
John was born January 18, 1943 in Pasadena, California to John and Mame Elliott. John graduated from Arizona State University in 1974. He moved to Hereford in 1977 from Scottsdale, Arizona. On June 18, 1982, John married the love of his life, Brenda Allison Elliott. He was a golfing “cowboy”. He was a supporter and participant of the Spicer Gripp Memorial and a member of the Hereford V.F.W. John was dearly loved by his wife Brenda, his children and family and a host of many friends. He will be dearly missed by all. John was a U. S. Army veteran serving his country from June 8, 1964 and was Honorably discharged on July 5, 1973. He was an infantry man. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery. He also was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Rifle Sharpshooter.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of the home, two sons, Richard Bice and wife Brenda of Hereford, Leslie Brice of Stephenville, TX, four grandchildren, Brady Bice of Hereford, Corey Henderson Courtney Henderson and Curry Bice all of Stephenville, TX.
