Obituary
Paul H. Laclare, born on June 1, 1948, lived a life defined by courage, sacrifice, and unwavering faith. A proud, born-again Christian and a dedicated patriot, Paul answered the call of duty during one of the most turbulent times in American history.
At just 20 years old, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army on October 2, 1968, not out of necessity but out of love for his family—he volunteered to ensure his younger brother would not face the draft. Paul served as a Cobra Crew Chief in Vietnam until May 13, 1970, where his bravery and dedication earned him numerous commendations: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star Medal, and Air Medal.
Despite the dangers of war, Paul carried out his duties with resolve, finding strength in his faith and love for his country. Tragically, his exposure to Agent Orange during his service would later lead to the complications that claimed his life on May 2, 2020. Yet, Paul never spoke ill of the Army or his country, accepting his sacrifices with the same grace that marked his life.
The eldest of three children, Paul was a loving brother to his younger brother and a sister—and a cherished son. He was a proud father of two daughters and a loving grandfather to two grandchildren. Paul’s love extended to his extended family, as he was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Outside his military service, Paul found joy in the roar of engines at drag races, the serenity of boating and fishing, and the simple pleasure of sharing these moments with loved ones.
Paul H. Laclare’s life was a testament to faith, service, and selflessness. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and all who were privileged to know him. He will forever be remembered as a hero.
