Like many older brothers Mike was a great roll model and he is sorely missed to this day by the entire family.
Mike returned from VietNam in Feb 1967. Was an Army Helicopter Flight Instructor until Sept 68. He received the Bronze Star for high risk civilian rescue in the Gulf of Mexico and received an Honorable Discharge as a CW2 in September 1968. HIs occupation after discharge was in Oil Company Sales.
In February 1973 he contracted agent orange-related cancer.
Mike passed away in September 1975 in Riverside, CA at the age of 30. His widow, Nancy, has since remarried and his three children; are all married with children of their own and doing well.
We are looking for those who knew Mike and may have stories or additional photos of him during flight training or while in D/3/4 Cu Chi, that can be shared. If you can help or know someone who can please send that info to the Centaurs In Vietnam Organization (CIVO) powellcentaur@gmail.com for posting on Mike's page on the website.
Al Menzl (20 Sep 2019): It was with sadness that I read that Michael passed away so early in life. I just now learned of this. We went through flight school together as classmates, as well as the others in the photos on his MyPage; Bob Dunbar, John Dismer, James Clyde Spears, and Bill Carroll.
