Terrance A. "Terry" Hawkinson, 49, a resident of Olympia for 11 years, died Monday, Jan 1, 1996, in his home.
He was born June 25, 1946, to Kermit and Bernice (Bunny) Hawkinson, in Closet, Minn, He attended school in Cloquet. He later graduated from San Martins's College in Lacey.
After high school, Mr Hawkinson enlisted in the Army. He served tow tours o duty in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot, receiving numerous medals and awards. He continued his career in the Army as a helicopter pilot and instructor until retirement in 1988. He later was a helicopter medical evacuation pilot for Hospital Air Transport/Airlift Northwest until May 1995.
He displayed an early passion for flying, receiving his private pilot's license at age 16 and his commercial pilot's license at age 18. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr Hawkinson is survived by his wife, Sonia, of the home: a son, Mark, Seattle: his father and stepmother, Kermit and Edythe Hawkinson, Tumwater; a sister, Pat Cummings, Lynden; a stepbrother, Allan Carpenter, Savage, Minn; a stepsister, Diane Stand, Maryville, Tenn; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.
A graveside service for Mr. Hawkinson was held Thursday, Jan 4 at Forest Funeral home and memorial Gardens, Olympia. The family suggests memorial donations be sent to the American Cancer society P.P. Box 1201
