Joe Hoover: Don Gerwe’s nickname was Goose. He was the night crew test pilot while we were in Frenzell-Jones. He was an excellent test pilot, very easy to work with and knew the aircraft UH-1, AH-1 and OH-6 very well.
The night crew was constantly moving the Cobra rotor heads around from aircraft to aircraft to meet mission requirements the next day and they required MOC and MTF before going back on flight status. George Aguilar and Red Patterson both knew Goose. He made working on the aircraft fun.
