KC Allcock: 6 Dec 2025: I just learned this morning regarding one of our Centaurs, Tom Fluharty. He was with me in the era of 69/70 and flew as a Scout Crew Chief with Mr. Elliot. I flew with Tom and Mr. Elliot a couple of times, and I tell you, those were action packed flights. Tom was one of the original
five Centaurs who gathered for the first D/F Troop Veterans Day Reunion in 2003. In 2010, Tom Fluharty came by Cameron, Missouri in his Large semi truck, and we had breakfast together. I tried to get Tom to come out to my farm and rest awhile, but he said he would need to get on the road for his load to be unloaded in Texas early the next day. Well, that evening, I got a call from Kathy, Tom's wife, and while driving, Tom suffered a stroke, and fortunately for him, a "trucker" friend was able to talk to Tom on a CB Radio, and get Tom's truck to the side before Tom completely collapsed from the stroke. Sherry and I went down to Witcha Kansas to see Tom in the Hospital. He was paralyzed on his left side and would be the rest of his life. I had lost contact with Tom in the following years, and frankly, after making a few attempts to contact him, even going by his home in Brighton, Iowa on one occasion, and I assumed Tom had passed away. Tom Passed away on the 29th of November, 2025. I talked to Kathy for a long while this morning. I send my Salute and my Taps to Tom. I was his friend, and he was mine as well.
