Hello Everyone, This is Karen, Lee's daughter.
As all of you likely know, Dad was diagnosed with multiple myeloma almost 9 years ago and since has fought a tough battle, especially in the last two years. Very sadly, he passed away on Saturday evening. To be sure all of his friends were aware, the family wanted to send this message.
It was his desire, and he deserved, to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. As those arrangements can take months, we are not planning a memorial service within the customary few days. We will, however, be planning a memorial service and a celebration of life reception in a few weeks prior to traveling to Arlington.
Dad has many mailing addresses, but to be sure we have current addresses, please reply to this email with your current mailing address if you would like to receive information regarding the upcoming memorial service and reception. Please also feel free to share or forward this email to anyone you feel would like to know.
I know how much Dad appreciated the support of all of his friends and how thankful he was for all of you. Thank you for the role you played in his life.
Karen,
My thoughts, prayers and sincerest condolences go out to you and all of
Lee's family in your time of grief. I was Lee's Troop Commander in Vietnam
(1967 and until 30 January 1968). I have nothing but the greatest respect
for Lee and his service to our country. He is one of the bravest people I
have ever known. I live within 13 miles of Arlington National Cemetery and
would like to be there when Lee's burial takes place and serve your family
in any capacity you may desire. I am currently on the road in my RV and
will be back in Northern Virginia at the end of April. I presume that it
will take many weeks to schedule the internment. If it does come sooner I
will have to apologize in advance for my absence,
Tom Fleming

Lee,
I worked with your dad at First Tennessee. He always brought levity into my day whenever he passed my way. I have missed him since we retired and I know that his many friends have also missed him. He loved his family and he loved life. Larry and I will have each of you in our prayers as we have since he was first diagnosed. I really appreciate your taking the time to let me know of his passing and I would like to know of his arrangements. Having visited Arlington in recent years, it pleases me to think of him in such a sacred place.
