Bob Graham: MAJ Lynn Askins was the first troop commander of D Troop 3/4 Cav in Vietnam. He was a veteran Signal staff officer.

MAJ Lynn D. Askins died after his tour in Vietnam on 08/27/1998 at the age of 80.5 in Sun City Center, FL
Date of Birth 02/24/1918

Served in Vietnam with 174 AHC in 65-66, D/3/4 CAV in 66

He was formerly of Grayville, died Thursday night at Plaza West in Sun City, Fla.

He retired after 26 years in the Army. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a helicopter pilot and instructor at Fort Rucker, Ala.

After retiring, he worked in construction, at the post office and as a manager of rental property.

He was a member of Hammond United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Vivian (Taylor); a daughter, Judith Collis of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

His daughter, Linda M. Askins, died in 1960.

Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home Grayville Chapel, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, with military rites.
