Obituary: Roy T. Walker, 77, formerly of Danville, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 28, 2013, after a short illness while in the VA Hospital in Washington, DC.
Beloved husband of Elaine M. Walker, he was the son of the late Buck Thomas Walker and Gracie Landrum Walker. Roy was predeceased by one son, James M. Walker, whom he loved dearly; four brothers, Burton Walker, Allen Walker, Clyde Walker, and Junior Thomas Walker; and one sister, Dorothy Mae Jones.
Roy was a retired MSG of the U.S. Army with two tours of duty in Vietnam. Other overseas tours included Italy and Korea. Recipient of the Bronze Star W/1 Oak Leaf Cluster and other distinguished service awards.
Besides his wife, he is also survived by his daughters, Debra Fahey and husband, Thomas, of Winthrop, MA, and Susan Salvati and husband, James, of Medford, MA. He is survived by five lovely grandchildren, Nicole, Stephanie, Michelle, Christopher, and Jessica; and one great-grandchild, Jacob. Roy is also survived by two brothers, Charlie L. Walker of Danville, VA, and Buck L. Walker "B.L." of Chester, VA; and one sister, Beulah Hudgins of Danville, VA
A Memorial Service was held at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
With Centaurs: When 1SG Johnny Martin was killed, MSG William M. McConnell became the First Sergeant of F Troop. He had been in that position only days, when on a mission where he was coordinating a Search and Rescue Mission, he was seriously wounded. MSG Roy Walker was then assigned to the First Sergeant position.
