I entered the Army just after I turned 17 in 1965. I arrived in Vietnam just after my 18th birthday, My time with D troop 3/4 Cav was 66-67. I was recruited by then CPT Mark Ponzillo. I was part of Leo Millers team along with Sam Wright, Rick Ellison and Dave Stanfield. I attended the first Recondo School with my other team mate. My Recondo # is 26.
I know Marshall Huckaby very well. Marshall is a good man who does a lot for the LRRP Groups. My last 30 days in country I was assigned to B troop providing road security along fireball 1, as we referred to Hwy 1 from Cu Chi to Tay Ninh. I had a second tour in Vietnan with the 101st Abn Div at Phu Bai and Camp Eagle 71-72. I was one of the last combat troops to leave Vietnam, bringing that unit back to Fort Campbell in 72. I had several breaks in my military service career and finally retired as a E-7 after completing 22 years. My wife Kathie and I now live in Fairhope AL.
