William "Billy" Mackey (63) was born December 10, 1949, in New York City and was a resident of Baton Rouge since 1956. He died suddenly Friday, February 1, 2013, at his home. He is survived by his mother, Marge Mackey; sons, William Todd Mackey and wife Tracy Davis Mackey, and Christopher Casey Mackey; grandsons, Davis Mackey and Ryan Mackey; granddaughter Payton Mackey; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Gail Mackey, Peter and Sharon Mackey, Danny and Karen Mackey, Tommy and Gerri Mackey; sister, Karleen Mackey Gremillion and husband Dr. Henry Gremillion' and many nieces and nephews.

Billy was a graduate of Louisiana State University and a life-long Tiger fan. He was an avid golfer, relishing his rounds in Baton Rouge and Houston with close friends, and was thrilled to attend last year's Ryder Cup matches.

He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran and spent a long and successful career working in the construction industry, most recently as general superintendent for Group Contractors. Most proudly, he was a devoted and a beloved father, adoring grandfather ("Papa Billy"), son, brother, uncle and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph V. Mackey.

Visitation was held at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Blvd. on Monday, February 4 and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Funeral services were held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd., with a celebratory Mass on Tuesday, February 5, at 11:00 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Msgr. William Greene.
