Keith did a second tour in Vietnam from 71-72(?). He was transferred to several different units during that tour due to units being stood down as the US started withdrawing troops.

His awards included some of the following, Distinguished Flying Cross x2, Air Medal x36, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal x3, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Vietnam Service Medal w/7 bronze service stars. He was also a Master Army Aviator.

Keith retired from the Army as a CW4 with postings in Seneca Army Depot, New York, Ft. Rucker, AL, Ft. Carson, CO, Hanau, Germany and Seoul, South Korea.

Mr. Howard Keith Rice of Daleville, AL passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at his home. He was 74.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors was held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Daleville with Rev. Jim Peters officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Daleville Baptist Church, 100 Donnell Blvd, Daleville, AL 36322.

CW4 (Ret) Rice retired after 20 years of service. He served 2 tours in Vietnam where he flew the UH-1 “Huey” helicopter. He was awarded the Master Aviator Wings, Distinguished Flying Cross x2, Air Medal x36, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal x3, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon x2, Vietnam Service Medal w/7 bronze service stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 device, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm. He was a qualified pilot for the Huey, Cobra and OH58C aircraft.

Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his father Howard Rice, Jr. and one great grandson Jacob Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Frances Rice, Daleville, AL; three children, Steve Rice (Ashley), Moundville, AL; Rodney McDaniel (Missy), Chipley, FL; Greg McDaniel (Kim), Dothan, AL; mother, Edna Rice, Falls Church, VA; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Tim Rice, Merritt Island, FL; Pat Rice (Micki), Scottsdale, AZ; Mike Rice, San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Karen Earnest, Falls Church, VA; Helen Rice, Littleton, CO; thirteen great-grandchildren.
