I read this and remembered just how lucky we were. It also stimulated my memories and I came up with some events that occurred during my tour (July 67 to July 68) and while I am not sure of the dates I through maybe we could all pitch in.
I was on my in-country orientation flight with I think Cpt Vinson when he felt chest pain we returned to Cu Chi he had a collapsed lung.
Lt Rice was shot down
Tet 1968 Bruce Wood was shot down
Jim Moore and I felt the concussion of a round from a sniper at H-3 (the men on the wire got him)
I was shot down
D 3/4 flew cover for Bob Hope
Crazy Bruce painted sharks teeth on our AH-1's
The Michelin rubber up north I think it was Dau Tiang C-130 was hit with an RPG in the right wing and did not go off.
D 3/4 was scrambled and engaged a gun position on the wire at night
D 3/4 was assigned a BDA ( bomb damage assesment ) and was caught in an artlilery TOT we all got out
Aero Riffles were pinned down south of the mushroom
As we all get closer to retirement may all of us find good winds and a smooth ride.
