Wayne flew OH-23s, then went to Slicks. Harold Fisher trained him for lead pilot. Fleming was his rater. In flight school he roomed with Ashabranner at Weatherford TX. Jim just contacted him. Remembers Bassett who got mad at him for out flying him one day at Tay Ninh. Bassett was OH-23 IP. John Hohman was roommate in slick hootch. They became close. Met after Nam.
Told story when in his last few days volunteered to ferry an OH23 to Go Dau Ha. Borrowed helmet, plate and 45. Fleming and Fisher said what are you doing here and sent him back in a slick. The First Sgt nailed him about it. Fleming and Fisher flew me to Tan Son Nhut a few days later.
