Info Sheet - David R. "Buzz" Busbin
………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Input from Terry Vaughn:
Nov 30 2011:
I just got off the phone with David Busbin, (BUZZ). What a trip to talk to him after 44 years. We talked quite a while and ended it with MAYBE meeting in Nashville in May. I'm sending him photos (snail-mail) he doesn't do computers, and a copy of the registration forms for Nashville.
He said he could still talk on the phone & write letters.
Buzz was my doorgunner the whole time I was on 65-09659 slick. Using what memory I have left; Buzz was an e-5 Sgt. Aprox 34 yrs old at the time (Would make him aprox 78 now) Ex marine that enlisted for WOC (Warrant Officer Candidate school) and was sent to RVN to wait for his slot to open in the school. Retired in 1972.
Buzz had stashed about 10 bottles of hard liquor in the heater compartment of 65-09659 (Heaters were removed) and every time we would fly resupply missions to A, B or C troop in the field, He would manage to sell off all his stock. He carried a Thompson sub-machine gun that had .45 cal all tracer ammo, as a backup in case his 60 wouldn't fire.
Also see Terry's article "Vietnam 1967 - The Way I Saw it" for more on "Buzz"
Input from Mike Vaughn:
Buzz was an E-5 (hard-strip) when I left Nam. I think he was an E-6 in the Corp. & lost a strip when he joined the Army. That’s according to my memory…and I'm sure you know how dependable that is.
Input from Dale Dow:
The DA Form 305-3 (Enlisted Personnel) has a David R. Busbin, CPL E4 listed as assigned to the troop.
I will check the VHPA data base and see if he went to and finished flight school.
