My vietnam tour dates were September 1971 through September 1972. It began with 334th attack helicopter unit at Phu Loi. They stood down February 1972.
I started flying with F troop in March at Long Binh, moved north with them to Phu Bia, then Tan My.
I flew lots of missions during the 1972 Easter Offensive. I was CPT Ron Radcliff's rear gunner when he was wounded on 23 May. Also I was shot down with CPT Fred Ledfors on Jun 20. Those were crazy times.
Both John Gross and I came into the scouts as "gunners". As time past and people DEROSed, we both ended up as Crew Chiefs. Not sure if it ever was official or not.
