Jack Shea went on from VN to serve at Combat Developments Command, Ft Belvoir; CDR of the 3rd ACR at Ft. Bliss; made BG ; was an ROTC Region Commander.
His next assignment was as the Director of the Weapons Directorate, Office of the Chief of Research and Development (DCSRDA) 1978-? I believe he retired from that organization when I was the FISO for the Army Tank Program in ODCSOPS.
Upon retirement from active duty he became the Executive Director for the American Defense Preparedness Association (it was the professional lobby organization for weapons development for the Army).
He was with Bill Mosenthal in the Trapezoid In June or July 1967 riding on top of a M-1113 on a recon when a VC shot at the APS killed a LT and wounded Mosenthal. LTC Shea located the VC and shot them with his 45. Bill can tell the story better than I can. LTC Shea received the Silver Star for that action. He is featured in the piece I wrote about the LT in a OH-23 who had a stuck throttle and crashed into the E Co. 725th area at Chu Chi. LTC Shea and Maj Kelly the S-3 were on board.
Upon his departure, LTC John M. Shea wrote this letter to
MAJ Tom Fleming, D Troop (Air) Commander and his troops.
