CW2 Pilot in Vietnam December 1967 to December 1968.
I was not a scout pilot ( fortunately ! ). Although we occasionally performed scout missions at the request of the subordinate units of the 2nd Brigade headquarters, we more predominantly did ash & trash and taxi cab missions. 795 did not sport a mini-gun while I flew it until after my DEROS in Dec 68."Three new W-1s from Class 67-15 made up the 2nd Brigade Aviation Section, 101st Airborne Division. After starting out with OH-23 Killer Hillers, our 2nd Brigade Aviation Section traded them for one UH-1H Huey and a beautiful brand new OH-6A Loach, 66-17795. I was RIFTed in 1970, so I was able to get hired by Pacific Southwest Airlines ( PSA ) as a station agent for 12 years.
Afterward I put in 20 years on the ramp with American Airlines. I found 795 with the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation, and I moved to Georgia to be a part of that organization. We performed combat assault demos and gave Huey and Cobra rides to the American public throughout the eastern United States.
Now I'm back in Sacramento with my 4 grandkids. "
